Large, rectangular wool carpet made of locally produced wool and dyes from Pirot in south-west Serbia, once the most important carpet-making centre in the Balkans. Known as kilims because they are tapestry-woven flat-weaves rather than pile rugs. Design includes knotted fringes at each end and repeated natural motifs set in narrow and wide oblongs within an outer red border.
